Content refresh: how to update old blog posts without losing traffic
A content refresh updates an existing page so it earns more clicks and AI citations without losing what already works. Start by finding the searches the page already gets clicks from and protect the sections that answer them. Keep the same address, update outdated facts and prices, add the questions competitors answer and you do not, and never remove working links, sources or calls to action without a reason. Then measure clicks after about four weeks.
Decide how much the page needs
- No change: the page is gaining or holding clicks. Leave it.
- Small update: it performs, but has outdated facts, a weak title or a missing call to action.
- Refresh: it is losing clicks or stuck, and competitors cover the topic better.
- Full rewrite: the page no longer matches what people want when they search. Rewrite it on the same address.
Protect what already works
Look at the searches the page appears and gets clicks for. The sections that answer them stay, with only factual edits. Keep statistics, sources, brand mentions, signup links and links from partner sites, and update figures rather than deleting them.
Fill the gaps
Read the pages that rank above yours and the pages AI tools cite for the same question. Note the questions they answer that you do not, the specifics they give, and what they miss. Add what your readers need and nothing more.
Publish carefully
- Keep the same address. Set it by hand so the platform does not create a new one.
- Record every link on the old version before replacing the text, then add each back.
- Check headings, tables, FAQs, images and the title and description in the editor.
- Read the final version once more before publishing.

Questions
How often should I refresh blog posts?
When the data says so: a page losing clicks, outdated facts or a topic that has changed. A fixed calendar tends to touch pages that were working fine.
Does changing the date on a post help?
Only when the content has changed in a meaningful way. Moving a date without real updates does not help readers or rankings.
Can you refresh our existing articles?
Yes. At ether., SEO and AI search content starts at C$125 per article, and refreshes of existing pages are usually the first work we recommend.
